Relax, Respond, Repair & Restore

History of Bowen

Bowen therapy was developed in Australia in the 1950's, by Tom Bowen.  Tom had no formal medical training, but a passionate interest in the human body, a strong desire to help people, and a unique gift.  As people saw the results of his treatments, his name spread, and he was in such demand that he had to give up his day job to work full-time as a therapist.

After his death in the 1980s, his therapy became known as the Bowen Technique, and was used and taught by those who had worked with him.  Since then, Bowen has spread rapidly throughout the world as people have experienced the results of this gentle but powerful therapy.

About the Treatment

A specific set of movements composed of gentle rolling of connective tissue/ skin fascia in a series of patterns at precise points of the body initiate the treatment.

Sessions usually last from 35- 45 minutes and can be performed through light clothing (or directly on skin).A full history will be taken at the first appointment

There is guidance provided on what to expect following a session which emphasises the importance of movement and, the drinking of water..

Sometimes clients can have reactions to treatment which can include tiredness, original symptoms, stiffness, headaches, flu like symptoms.

Clients may not see the Benefits of treatment for several days until the body initiates the repair signals and then will see the rewards of the Bowen Technique. Therefore a gap of 5-10 days between treatments is advised a week being optimum.

Clients will be asked not to have other forms therapy whilst receiving Bowen and to leave a period of a week either side.

The Bowen Technique is not intended as a substitute for medical advice or treatment. If you are unsure, or have any concerns, please consult your GP first.
