Relax, Respond, Repair & Restore

What is the Bowen Technique?

The Bowen technique is a remedial holistic therapy that is used to give the whole body opportunity to restore its structural integrity. Bowen Therapy stimulates the body's natural healing ability in a gentle and non-invasive way.

The Bowen technique consists of a series of gentle cross fibre moves using fingers and thumbs over muscle, tendons and connective tissue / skin fascia that prompts soft tissue release and sends neurological impulses to the brain. The impulses travel through the nervous system and stimulate a whole body response. Bowen is unique in that there are breaks between the moves to allow the brain time to process and send messages to the body. The breaks enable the body sufficient time to receive, process the messages and restore a healthy, natural balance.

How does it work?

The autonomic nervous system controls over 80% of bodily functions (cardiac, respiratory, peripheral circulation, reproductive, endocrine, gastrointestinal) and is very susceptible to stress and emotional tensions. For healing to happen, the body needs to shift from sympathetic (fight/  flight mode) to parasympathetic (vegetative mode) dominance. For this to happen, it needs time and space to literally unwind and "digest" physical and emotional stress. The Bowen Technique facilitates these positive shifts.

Who responds well to Bowen therapy?

Bowen therapy can safely be used to good effect on people of all ages, new born to the elderly and everyone in between.
